Special counsel Jack Smith’s office has once again asked a federal judge to impose a gag order on former President Donald Trump in his classified records case. This request comes after new evidence of an alleged threat targeting an FBI agent has emerged, strengthening their argument for the gag order.
In a court filing dated June 21, Mr. Smith urged U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to grant the gag order, citing the new evidence as justification. He argued that a threat made by a Trump supporter against an FBI agent highlights the potential danger posed by the former President’s comments about law enforcement officials.
The court motion stated, “Statements that pose a significant, imminent, and foreseeable danger to law enforcement agents involved in this case represent a threat to the integrity of these criminal proceedings.” This filing coincided with a hearing where Judge Cannon was evaluating the legitimacy of Mr. Smith’s appointment as special counsel in the classified records case.
