A tragic incident occurred at Kennesaw State University in Georgia on Saturday when a female student was shot and killed by an armed intruder on campus, as confirmed by officials.
Kennesaw State officials released a statement on their website saying, “Kennesaw State officials can confirm that a female student was fatally shot on campus. A suspect has been detained.”
The university reassured the campus community by stating, “There is no threat to the campus community. Kennesaw State University Police are working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and we will provide updated information once it becomes available.”
The female student was tragically shot around 4 p.m. on the campus.
Initially, an alert on social media reported, “Armed Intruder reported at Kennesaw State. Seek shelter in a secure location until further notice.”
By 4:45 p.m., the university declared an “all clear” and confirmed that the suspect was no longer a threat to the campus.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the university are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
This tragic event follows another unfortunate incident three months ago when Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University, was killed on February 22 while jogging on trails around the University of Georgia campus. The suspect, Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national living illegally in the US, has been charged with her murder, described by the police as a “crime of opportunity.”
