Knife-Wielding Man Attacks NYPD Cops in the Bronx
A knife-wielding individual with a history of criminal offenses assaulted two NYPD officers after smashing the window of their patrol car in the Bronx, according to law enforcement sources.
The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. in front of Brothers Police and Security store on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park. Patrick Young, 34, approached the cruiser with officers inside while brandishing a large knife.
After dropping the knife, Young became agitated and started punching the driver’s side window, eventually breaking it.
When the officers confronted Young, he physically assaulted them as they attempted to arrest him.
Police eventually used a Taser to subdue Young and took him into custody.
Young, who has a criminal record with over 20 prior arrests, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychological evaluation and treatment for hand injuries.
He was charged with assault and criminal mischief.
According to police sources, one of Young’s recent arrests was for menacing with a weapon.
The two officers involved in the incident were treated for injuries at North Central Hospital.
