The Washington Post previously reported that Trump had spoken with Putin after winning the U.S. election. However, the Kremlin has denied these claims, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin and President-elect Donald Trump did not have a conversation in the days following the election. The Washington Post had cited anonymous sources on Nov. 10, claiming that Trump had urged Putin not to escalate the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and discussed ways to end the war. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refuted these reports, stating that there was no conversation between the two leaders. The Epoch Times reached out to the Trump team for comment but did not receive a response. According to Tass, Trump and Putin have not spoken since July 2020, and Putin had wished Trump a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in 2021. Journalist Bob Woodward alleged in his book “War” that Trump and Putin had spoken after Trump’s first term ended. Trump has not confirmed or denied these claims but said in an interview that if he did speak with Putin, it would be a smart move. Trump’s spokesperson and Peskov have both denied Woodward’s reporting. Trump had expressed his intention to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war during his campaign. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has opposed ending the war by giving up Ukrainian territory to Russia. The Biden administration is working to provide aid to Ukraine before the transfer of power amid uncertainty about Trump’s plans for the country.
