Los Angeles school officials are currently investigating an allegation involving a Fairfax High student who reportedly created and shared inappropriate photos of a classmate.
In a statement released on April 9, officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District revealed that the photos in question were allegedly produced and shared using a third-party messaging app.
While it has not been confirmed whether artificial intelligence was used in creating the photos, the district is focused on educating students about the “ethical use of technology.”
“Following the initial investigation conducted by the school, it was determined that the images were created and shared on a third-party messaging app not affiliated with Los Angeles Unified,” officials stated. “The district is committed to providing guidance on the responsible use of technology, including AI, and is dedicated to promoting education on digital citizenship, privacy, and safety within our school communities.”
This incident follows a recent case at Laguna Beach High School, where authorities are collaborating with law enforcement to probe fake photos of students generated using artificial intelligence to superimpose their faces onto nude bodies.
In a separate incident, five students from a Beverly Hills middle school were expelled in February for using artificial intelligence to produce fake nude photos of their classmates.
