A desert tortoise was rescued from attempting to cross Interstate 10 near Picacho, Arizona by a state Department of Public Safety trooper on July 30. The motorist who reported the tortoise named “Stitch” managed to get the tortoise off the busy highway with the help of DPS Sgt. Steven Sekrecki. The tortoise had escaped from an ostrich ranch located 3 miles away, as confirmed by the ranch. Stitch was safely returned to the ranch after the rescue operation.
