In 2023, the FBI received anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified school and time. These threats, which included photographs of guns, were posted on a gaming site. Law enforcement officers in Georgia had previously interviewed a 14-year-old boy who was suspected of carrying out a mass shooting at Apalachee High School. The FBI was able to trace the origin of the threats to Georgia and referred the information to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies interviewed the boy and his father, who denied the allegations. Although no charges were filed, local schools were alerted for monitoring. The boy, identified as Colt Gray, later carried out a shooting at Apalachee High School, resulting in casualties. Authorities are investigating any potential connections the shooter may have had and are working to ensure there are no further threats.
