Authorities in Southern California discovered more human remains on Thursday, following the finding of a human leg on a shoreline near where a capsized vessel with two fishermen washed up earlier in the week.
The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department responded to a call on Christmas Day after an individual spotted the appendage around 8:20 a.m., as reported by Fox Los Angeles.
Additional remains, including a second human leg and a femur, were found by authorities on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The remains have not been identified yet. Palos Verdes Estates Police Capt. Aaron Belda stated that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office will work on identifying the remains and determining if they are linked to the boat incident that occurred on December 23.
Two men went fishing on a small boat on Monday afternoon and were reported missing the following day.
Their overturned boat was discovered near a rocky shoreline in Palos Verdes Estates, as confirmed by the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard search conducted on Christmas Eve was suspended on Wednesday due to hazardous conditions, as reported by the Times.
Last month, a human skull and bones washed ashore in the same area where the recent remains were found.
Belda mentioned that it’s uncertain if the recently discovered femur is connected to that previous case, as per the Times.
