LSU’s Trey Holly will not be charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting on Feb. 9, as reported by multiple sources.
The running back was one of three individuals arrested for the incident in Farmerville, La., where a man was shot in the leg and a woman was critically injured with three gunshot wounds. Holly faced three felony charges, including second-degree attempted murder, after turning himself in on Feb. 19.
However, a Union Parish grand jury decided to charge Holly with one felony count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentality, dropping the attempted second-degree murder charge.
According to his attorney, Michael Small, Holly intends to plead not guilty.
“We look forward to a fair trial in Union Parish, where I believe a not guilty verdict will be reached,” Small stated, as reported by The Advocate.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Holly has maintained his innocence, asserting that he was wrongly accused and arrested. In a social media post in February, he stated, “I am 100% innocent and the people that know me know this is not my character at all.”
LSU suspended Holly immediately after his arrest, and he did not participate in spring practice with the team.
