In her bid for a congressional seat in New Hampshire, a well-connected military veteran with extensive experience in Washington is receiving financial support from out-of-state donors and is backed by a super PAC associated with billionaires Jeff Bezos and Michael Bloomberg.
Maggie Goodlander has raised over $1.5 million in the first two months of her campaign, with the majority of funds coming from individual donors. According to The Intercept’s analysis of campaign finance reports, 88% of individual contributions are from outside New Hampshire. The Principled Veterans Fund, a super PAC linked to Bezos and Bloomberg, has been the primary source of outside spending in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, investing over $150,000 in pro-Goodlander advertisements.
Goodlander is competing in a Democratic primary against Colin Van Ostern, who has the endorsement of outgoing Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster. While Van Ostern’s campaign raised $719,000 in the most recent quarter, with 63% of individual contributions coming from within the state, Goodlander’s financial support is largely from out-of-state donors. The election is scheduled for September 10.
In addition to individual donors, Goodlander has received contributions from various PACs, including those of Rep. Dan Goldman, Rep. Jason Crow, Rep. Steve Cohen, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal. Her in-state contribution percentage is notably low compared to the average for House incumbents seeking reelection.
Goodlander, a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, has an impressive background, serving as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and holding positions advising prominent political figures. Her campaign has been successful in fundraising, with notable donations from high-profile individuals and organizations.
Despite controversy surrounding out-of-state funding, Goodlander’s campaign has garnered significant support and attention. With endorsements from influential figures and a strong fundraising record, she remains a prominent candidate in the upcoming election.
