Authorities in Richmond, British Columbia, have apprehended a man involved in a dine-and-dash incident where he was captured on video scooping frozen yogurt with his hands.
The occurrence took place on October 16 at Timothy’s Frozen Yogurt in Steveston, as recounted by Katelyn Sieg, a witness and employee at nearby Pierside Deli.
“On Thursday, when he was actually arrested for an unrelated offense, they informed us, ‘Hey, don’t worry, he’s been taken into custody,’” she shared during a phone conversation with The Epoch Times.
Sieg mentioned that the police advised them not to confront the man if he returned to the area but to contact the authorities who would handle his arrest.
The Epoch Times reached out to the local RCMP but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
Sieg recalled being at the deli on October 16 when an employee from Timothy’s Frozen Yogurt came in to report that the man had returned. He had previously caused trouble at the store on two occasions, prompting the boss to instruct employees to call the police if he made another appearance, she explained.
“I suggested, ‘Okay, let’s head over to your store, lock up, and you stay here until your boss arrives,’” she recalled.
Upon their arrival at the store, Sieg noticed that the man was already behind the counter.
“I shouted ‘Hey’ loudly to grab his attention, and he startled. He was already behind the counter, going through their belongings. Startled, he jumped up, reached for a cone, and accidentally crushed it,” she recounted.
At that moment, Sieg retrieved her camera to document the unfolding events.
In the footage, provided to The Epoch Times by Sieg, the man is seen holding an ice cream cone and disregarding Sieg’s instructions to leave the store as the police were on their way. Instead, he proceeds to the frozen yogurt counter, scoops some with his hands, and despite Sieg’s repeated requests to depart, he indulges in a second scoop of ice cream with his hands and places it on the cone.
Subsequently, he picks up a bag and casually exits the store, bidding Sieg to “take care.”
“The most unsettling part of the entire incident, in my opinion, was him scooping the ice cream with his bare hands,” she remarked.
According to Sieg, this wasn’t the first instance of the man causing trouble at Timothy’s Frozen Yogurt.
“The initial time he came in was about two and a half weeks ago, claiming he had lost his cell phone,” she recalled. “He ventured behind the counter, but was promptly told to leave. He then departed.”
She mentioned that during his second visit to the store, he requested an ice cream and left without making payment.
Although Sieg had only recently encountered the man, his behavior had been a topic of discussion among businesses in the vicinity for approximately a year, including an incident where he took a remote from a local restaurant and later returned it.
“It’s likely that he wasn’t in the right state of mind,” she speculated. “I don’t harbor ill will towards this gentleman. I hope he receives the assistance he needs. I simply hope to avoid encountering him again.”
