BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Police in Broomfield, Colorado, took a suspect into custody after a shooting at an apartment complex near Denver. The suspect was involved in a four-hour standoff that resulted in gunfire hitting cars, buildings, and apartment units. A female victim was also taken to the hospital during the incident.
After negotiating with the suspect for 3 1/2 hours, officers entered the apartment at the Arista Flats complex where the suspect was holding a woman hostage. The suspect was arrested, and a police officer fired his weapon inside the apartment.
Rachel Haslett, a spokeswoman for the Broomfield police department, mentioned that the suspect had been threatening to harm people. The suspect’s identity and the weapons used were not disclosed.
Both the suspect and the female victim were transported to a hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not immediately known.
The incident occurred as residents were preparing for work in Broomfield, a city of about 75,000 people located approximately 15 miles northwest of Denver.

Haslett mentioned that the number of shots fired during the standoff was unknown. The gunfire occurred sporadically throughout the process.
Heather Tallant, a resident, described a bullet or projectile flying over her head and breaking her bedroom window during the incident.
Nate Schamel, another local resident, recounted hearing sirens and bursts of gunfire as the situation unfolded.
Amy Johnson Kemner, who lived above the suspect’s unit, shared her experience of hearing loud noises before being instructed by a SWAT team to barricade herself inside her apartment.
