A Manhattan man has been indicted on assault charges for allegedly slashing an older man in the face during the Dominican Day Parade in Midtown in August.
Joshua Cantero, 20, was walking near West 45th Street and 8th Avenue when he began jumping on parked cars, as stated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The victim, a 65-year-old man, was in his car when Cantero jumped on it. When asked to leave, Cantero pulled out a knife and attacked the man, causing injuries to his face and hand.
Cantero was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident and has been charged with attempted assault and assault with a weapon.
The victim received medical treatment for his injuries, and Bragg expressed his condemnation of violence against older adults.
The parade, known for attracting a large crowd, was disrupted by rowdy behavior, leading to its early cancellation and police intervention.
The NYPD had to redirect the parade route and ultimately shut it down to control the escalating situation.
Overall, the incident marked a chaotic turn of events during the long-standing parade that ended prematurely due to safety concerns.
