He had a strange fascination with shoes and wanted to experience what it was like to be in their shoes — quite literally.
A man in Greece received a suspended one-month prison sentence for sneaking into his neighbors’ homes at night and indulging in the act of smelling their shoes.
The 28-year-old individual, who admitted to the Thessaloniki court that he couldn’t explain his foot fetish, was essentially put on probation and instructed to seek therapy.
He expressed that the peculiar behavior had caused him significant embarrassment and clarified that he had no intention of causing harm or breaking any laws.
Witnesses from the neighborhood attested to the fact that he never displayed any aggressive behavior.
The man was apprehended in Sindos, located approximately 9 miles west of Thessaloniki in northern Greece, during the early hours of October 8.
A neighbor, who had left his family’s shoes outside their home to air out, discovered the man engaging in the act of smelling them.
This wasn’t the first time he had been caught in the act.
Over the past six months, three similar incidents had occurred, despite neighbors requesting the man’s family to intervene and put an end to his shoe-sniffing habit.
