A woman involved in a tragic car crash on July 6, 2024, that claimed the life of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson, along with two of his former high school teammates, has been arrested. She was indicted on 13 counts, including DUI and criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter.
Cori Clingman, the driver at the time of the crash, was charged nearly seven months after the incident took place, resulting in the deaths of Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, and Anthony Lytton Jr.
Currently in custody, Clingman is set to have a bond hearing on Friday.
Clingman faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison for her role in the tragic accident.
State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy expressed the loss felt by the community, stating, “Each of their lives was special, important, and a tragic loss for their families and our community. These were three young men with bright futures ahead of them, taken away from us on that fateful day.”
The crash occurred in the early hours of July 6 when Clingman’s vehicle collided with a Dodge Charger carrying Jackson, Hazel, and Lytton, as well as a Chevrolet Impala.
According to Maryland State Police, the Charger veered off the road, striking multiple stumps, resulting in the fatalities of Jackson and Hazel at the scene, with Lytton passing away later at the hospital.
Reports indicated that the cars were engaged in street racing prior to the accident.
Details of the investigation are limited, but it was revealed that Clingman’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the crash.
State’s Attorney Braveboy emphasized the need for justice for the victims, their families, and the community affected by this tragedy.
All three victims were talented football players, with Hazel having played at Maryland and Charlotte, and Lytton having been associated with Florida State and Penn State’s football programs.
Jackson, a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had been participating in the Vikings’ OTAs and minicamp.
