Republican leaders are expressing concern after Vice President Kamala Harris labeled former President Donald Trump as a fascist, fearing that such rhetoric could incite violence against him.
Harris made the statement during a media event following remarks by Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, who referred to the former president as a fascist who desired loyal generals like Hitler’s.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) released a joint statement urging Harris to refrain from using dangerous language that could escalate threats against Trump.
They highlighted the recent assassination attempts against Trump and warned that labeling a political opponent as a fascist could inspire more violence.
The lawmakers emphasized the importance of prioritizing national security and urged Harris to abandon irresponsible rhetoric that endangers American lives and institutions.
In response to Harris’s comments, former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized her for divisive remarks that could incite violence.
Trump and his former staff have refuted Kelly’s claims, and The Epoch Times has reached out to the Harris campaign for a response.
During a town hall event on CNN, Harris expressed concerns about the future of the country under Trump’s leadership and affirmed her belief that he is a fascist.
