Melania Trump, who has been mostly absent from public view while her husband, Donald J. Trump, campaigns for president this year, will make an appearance at a fund-raiser at Mar-a-Lago on April 20 for the Log Cabin Republicans, according to the group’s president.
The event, which was first reported by Politico, marks a return to the political scene for Mrs. Trump, who has been notably absent from campaign events.
Despite Mr. Trump’s claims that Mrs. Trump would join him on the campaign trail, she has not traveled with him. She did not even attend a Super Tuesday party at Mar-a-Lago, their home in Palm Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Trump recently appeared in public with Mr. Trump when he cast his ballot during Florida’s primary. When asked about her future appearances, she simply said, “Stay tuned.”
Although Mrs. Trump remains a popular surrogate for the former president, she has shown little interest in actively participating in the campaign.
The fund-raiser for the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of L.G.B.T. conservatives, will still keep her mostly out of the public eye. The group’s president, Charles T. Moran, confirmed that Richard Grenell, Mr. Trump’s former ambassador to Germany, will also be present.
Mrs. Trump has had a longstanding relationship with the Log Cabin Republicans. In a financial disclosure last year, she revealed receiving a $250,000 payment from the group in December 2022. The group tweeted a photo thanking her for her continued work on projects from her time in the White House.
Mrs. Trump’s rare public appearances over the past year have been largely unrelated to Mr. Trump’s campaign. She recently joined him as he hosted Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, at Mar-a-Lago.
In January, she delivered a eulogy at her mother’s funeral, Amalija Knavs. She also gave a speech at a naturalization ceremony in Washington last December, emphasizing the importance of active participation in democracy and the protection of freedom.
In November, she attended a funeral for Mr. Trump’s older sister. She also participated in a memorial service for Rosalynn Carter alongside other first ladies from both parties. This marked the first time since George H.W. Bush’s funeral in 2018 that all living first ladies were together in one place.
