A memorial for Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau will be held at their New Jersey high school
A memorial service for Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau will take place at their alma mater, Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester City, New Jersey. The event, titled “Quiet Night of Remembrance,” will be held on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. The school extended the invitation to the entire Gloucester Catholic Family and residents of the Tri-State area to pay tribute to the brothers.
Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, tragically lost their lives when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver while biking in Salem County, NJ. The brothers were set to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding the following day.
The school expressed their devastation over the loss of the beloved alumni, emphasizing the brothers’ love for Gloucester Catholic and their role as sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, friends, and role models.
The driver, Sean Higgins, was arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto for causing the tragic accident that took the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
Thousands of fans have attended vigils in honor of the brothers across the US and Canada in the past week.
Johnny Gaudreau played for the Calgary Flames for nine seasons before signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets in July 2022, while his brother Matthew played for the New York Islanders’ affiliate team during his professional career.
