DUBLIN—Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has been ordered to pay nearly 250,000 euros ($259,950) in damages for assaulting a woman in Dublin in 2018, as decided by a jury on Friday.
The jury, consisting of eight women and four men, reached their verdict after six hours and 10 minutes of deliberation.
The plaintiff, Nikita Hand, alleged that McGregor sexually assaulted her on Dec. 9, 2018, and that another man, James Lawrence, also assaulted her, as heard in Ireland’s high court during two weeks of evidence.
McGregor, aged 36, denied the allegation and also denied causing bruising to the plaintiff.
Hand’s lawyer informed the jury that when she was seen at a sexual assault treatment unit the day after the alleged assault, a doctor was sufficiently concerned to order photographs of her injuries.
Hand stated that she and a friend got in touch with McGregor, whom she knew, after a work Christmas party. She claimed that they were driven by McGregor to a party in a penthouse room of a south Dublin hotel where drugs and alcohol were consumed.
She claimed that McGregor took her to a bedroom in the penthouse and sexually assaulted her. Hand’s lawyer, John Gordon, mentioned that Hand was on antidepressants and “full of drugs” at the time of the alleged assault.
