The Heartbreaking Story of a 5-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped by an Illegal Migrant on Long Island
The mother of the five-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by an illegal migrant on Long Island tearfully expressed her despair and loss of faith in the world as she recounted the horrific moments her daughter endured with the suspect in their own home.
“I am sad. I am scared, and I’m losing confidence in the world,” the girl’s mother, Petronila, 46, shared with The Post in Spanish, days after Honduras national Wilson Castillo Diaz was arrested for the despicable act.
Diaz, 27, who had skipped an immigration hearing after being released at the US-Mexico border, was apprehended last week for the heinous assault that took place inside their shared Westbury residence.
According to a criminal complaint, Diaz allegedly raped the girl in his bedroom on the afternoon of Oct. 16 and also exposed her to pornographic images on his TV.
“Ma, I don’t want him to be here,” the little girl confided in her mother hours after the alleged rape, as recounted by Petronila.
A few days later, she bravely disclosed the traumatic experience.
“Ma, he dragged me into his room. I was super, super scared. I told him to stop. I will tell my mother and my brother,” the shaken mom translated.
Following Petronila’s report to the police, the girl was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. Their troubles with Diaz began when he moved into their Long Island home’s basement two years ago.
Diaz, employed as a party decorator, began inviting the toddler into his bedroom two months after moving in. He allegedly kissed her on the mouth multiple times, prompting the family to warn her to stay away from him.
“We told her not to comply with his orders,” her older brother stated outside their residence.
There are concerns that the girl may not be Diaz’s only victim, as per Nassau County officials.
“In this case, this 27-year-old man did not wake up one day and decide ‘I’m going to rape a five-year-old girl,” Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder stated at a press conference, suggesting the possibility of more victims.
Having illegally entered the US near Rio Grande, Texas in 2014 as an unaccompanied minor, Diaz was taken into custody by border agents but was later released after being served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
Following his failure to attend the immigration court hearing, Diaz was issued a removal order in absentia in 2016.
Diaz was arraigned on rape, attempted rape, and endangering the welfare of a child charges and is currently held in Nassau County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman condemned Diaz’s presence in the country, emphasizing the tragedy of the crime committed against a young innocent girl.
