The mother of a 31-year-old woman who was found dead, wrapped in a sleeping bag, and left on a Kips Bay sidewalk expressed her shock and grief on Monday. She fainted upon learning of her daughter’s tragic death.
The victim, identified as Yazmeen Williams by her family, was discovered inside a sleeping bag among black trash bags on the sidewalk outside 207 E. 27th St. on Friday evening.
Authorities confirmed that she had been shot in the head, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Yazmeen’s mother, Nicole Williams, recounted the heartbreaking moment when police informed her of her daughter’s death. She collapsed in tears upon hearing the devastating news. She emphasized the need for justice for her daughter.
According to law enforcement sources, a man was seen pulling the makeshift body bag on an electric wheelchair before the body was discovered. The body had been left among other trash bags on the sidewalk.
Police were unable to determine the exact time of the fatal shooting and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
Yazmeen’s mother pointed to one of her daughter’s friends, who uses a wheelchair, as a possible suspect in the case.
Yazmeen, who studied criminal justice at Buffalo State University, was described as a beloved individual by her mother.
A memorial with candles and flowers was set up on the sidewalk where Yazmeen’s body was found, as a tribute to the victim.
Neighbors and community members expressed their sadness over the tragic incident and remembered Yazmeen as a kind-hearted individual.
