A mother of two, Morgan Metzer, shared her terrifying experience of being attacked by a masked intruder in her Canton, Ga., home on New Year’s Day 2021. The intruder, who turned out to be her ex-husband, beat, bound, raped, and nearly choked her to death in a sinister attempt to win her back.
Metzer woke up to a masked man using a voice distortion tool, making him sound like “something out of Batman.” She was alone in the house as her twins were away with family for the vacation.
During the assault, the attacker beat her, restrained her with zip ties, and sexually assaulted her. He then started to strangle her, causing her to fear for her life.
Metzer recognized her ex-husband, Rodney Metzer, despite his disguise, and suspected his involvement in the attack. After the assault, Rodney appeared at the scene, claiming to have been informed by a stranger about the break-in at his ex-wife’s house.
Police later discovered evidence linking Rodney to the crime, including zip ties matching those used to bind Metzer. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses.
It was revealed that Rodney had planned the attack in a desperate bid to win back his former wife, after years of emotional manipulation and gaslighting. Despite their troubled past, they had maintained a friendship for the sake of their children.
Rodney pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 70 years in jail as part of a plea deal. The incident shed light on the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of recognizing abusive behavior.
