It would have been more fitting if she had been slimed.
A woman who transformed her Kia Soul into a replica of the famous Ecto-1 vehicle from “Ghostbusters” had the custom wheels stolen from her apartment building in Los Angeles.
Erica Nese, the owner of the Ecto Kia, mentioned to KTLA that someone attempted to break into the vehicle last week using a screwdriver.
She had planned to take her car to the mechanic for repairs on Monday, but when she went to the parking garage under her Silver Lake apartment, the lime-green Soul was nowhere to be found.
“It’s really beautiful… it’s a work of art that took me about four or five years,” she expressed. “But it’s looking very pretty, and it’s not done yet.”
Nese reported that several other cars in the garage were also broken into. Despite the parking garage having a locked gate and requiring a code for entry, the theft occurred.
Although the thief may find it challenging to go unnoticed in such a distinct car, no arrests have been made.
“I just want the car back so I can keep working on it,” Nese reiterated.
“It’s like my child,” she added.
Theft of Kia-made vehicles has seen a significant increase in recent years due to vulnerabilities in the ignition systems of certain models.
This issue has led to the “Kia Challenge” on social media, with calls for federal regulators to mandate a recall on affected Kias and Hyundais.
Various cities and states have taken legal action against the automakers in response to the rising theft rates.
