NASA had to cancel a scheduled spacewalk at the International Space Station due to a water leak from an astronaut’s spacesuit.
Astronauts Tracy Dyson and Mike Barratt were preparing to exit the space station when Dyson noticed water leaking from her spacesuit’s cooling system as she switched it to battery power. Fortunately, the leak was detected before they floated outside.
“There’s literally water everywhere here now,” Barratt reported.
Despite the unexpected setback, both astronauts were safe and not in any immediate danger, according to NASA.
The purpose of the spacewalk was to remove a faulty communications box and collect microbe samples from the exterior of the space station. Originally planned to last nearly seven hours, the spacewalk had to be cut short after just half an hour.
This incident comes shortly after another spacewalk was postponed due to an astronaut experiencing “spacesuit discomfort.”
