NASA Postpones Crew-9 Mission Launch Due to Tropical Storm Helene
NASA announced on Tuesday that the launch of its Crew-9 mission with SpaceX has been rescheduled to Sept. 28 due to the presence of Tropical Storm Helene.
The upcoming Crew Dragon mission, known as Crew-9, is a routine flight that will transport three NASA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut to the International Space Station.
Tropical Storm Helene is currently moving through the Gulf of Mexico and is projected to impact the northwest region of Florida. The storm is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to the Cape Canaveral area, where the mission is scheduled to launch from.
The original launch date for the Crew-9 mission was set for no earlier than Aug. 18 but was delayed by a month to allow for further analysis of issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, which is currently docked at the space station.
NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov are set to launch aboard the Dragon spacecraft to the ISS. This mission will mark the ninth crew rotation mission with SpaceX as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
