In previous articles, I’ve discussed two popular Nabisco products – Oreos and Triscuits. However, I have yet to explore the origin of the company itself. The history of Nabisco dates back to 1898 when the New York Biscuit Company and the American Biscuit and Manufacturing Company merged to form the National Biscuit Company. In 1901, the company introduced a new sugar wafer product called Nabisco, derived from the first few letters of the company’s name. Over time, the company underwent various rebranding efforts, transitioning to NBC in the early 1900s before officially adopting the Nabisco name on all packaging in April 1971. Subsequent mergers led to further name changes, including Nabisco Brands in 1981, RJR Nabisco in 1985, and reverting back to Nabisco in 1993.
