Authorities in Lake Elsinore have uncovered a psychedelic mushroom operation at a residence, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Jesse Arroyo, in Southern California. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced on Nov. 27 that Arroyo was taken into custody for multiple felony drug-related offenses and weapons violations.
Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a suspicious package sent to a business in August. Upon processing the contents and passing it on to a special investigation team, authorities identified Arroyo as the suspect who had sent the package. A search warrant was obtained for his residence, where a large-scale psilocybin mushroom cultivation operation was discovered.
The property contained structures dedicated to the cultivation, processing, and storage of significant amounts of psilocybin mushrooms. Detectives seized approximately 445 pounds of vacuum-sealed mushrooms and 2,805 bags containing mushrooms in various stages of growth, with an estimated street value of $2.9 million.
Additionally, law enforcement confiscated firearms from Arroyo’s residence, including two semi-automatic rifles, a shotgun, four semi-automatic handguns, one handgun silencer, and two bullet-proof vests.
