The Republican candidates in the June 11 Congressional District 4 race are emphasizing their conservative credentials as a key value. These challengers include a financial adviser and Iraq War Air Force combat commander, a former North Las Vegas mayor, and an accountant who is also an attorney. They are competing for the Republican nomination to face off against three-term incumbent Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) in November.
Nevada’s Congressional District 4 (CD 4) is considered one of the competitive races in the Las Vegas area, with Mr. Horsford being the favorite in the D+5 district. The three Republican candidates running in the CD 4 GOP primary are Iraq war veteran and small business owner David Flippo, former North Las Vegas mayor and plumbing company owner John Lee, who was endorsed by former President Trump, and lawyer-accountant Bruce Frazey, who is described as “the only lifelong Republican candidate in District 4 who does not support Donald Trump.”
Despite limited polling data on Nevada’s House races, Flippo and Lee are seen as the frontrunners. Flippo’s campaign reported raising $922,333, while Lee’s campaign raised $850,472. Horsford, the incumbent, has raised $3.34 million for his campaign.
The Republican candidates in CD 4 are focusing on issues such as water, federal land policy, and affordable housing, with all three hopefuls highlighting federal debt spending as a key concern. Flippo, who signed the Club for Growth “no new taxes” pledge, emphasizes the need to reduce the deficit and live within the country’s means. Frazey and Lee also propose changes to the federal budget system and tax code to address financial challenges.
Overall, the Republican challengers in the CD 4 race are positioning themselves as advocates for conservative values and fiscal responsibility in addressing the issues facing Nevada and the nation. Lee shared with The Epoch Times that his reputation for creating jobs and opportunities in the community is well-respected. He emphasized the advantage of his name recognition in the district and highlighted public safety as a key issue that needs attention, attributing the increase in crime to the impact of “Bidenomics” on Las Vegas’ economy post-COVID.
Backed by former President Trump, as well as Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo and various state lawmakers, including Democrats, Lee believes that ousting Mr. Horsford should be a priority for GOP candidates and voters in CD 4. On the other hand, Flippo argues that defeating Lee should come first before targeting Horsford.
Having served as a Democrat in the Nevada Assembly and Senate, Lee’s opponent Flippo positions himself as the best candidate to align with a Trump administration due to his lifelong conservative values. Flippo criticizes Lee for his liberal voting record and emphasizes the importance of electing a true conservative in the race to avoid two long-standing Democrats on the general election ballot.
Frazey, a newcomer to politics, refers to himself as a “Never-Trumper” and sees this group as a significant portion of CD 4’s GOP voters. While he doesn’t directly address Lee, Frazey praises Flippo for his economic understanding and willingness to address issues that other Republican candidates may avoid despite voter concerns.
Frazey believes that the former president remains a campaign issue, with a notable presence of “Never-Trumpers” among registered voters in the district.
