Justices rejected a challenge from Republicans. Ballots received by mail can now be counted up to three days after Election Day, according to a ruling by the Nevada Supreme Court on October 28. The state’s highest court dismissed a challenge to state law that allows for the counting of ballots without clear postmarks, as long as they are received by 5 p.m. on the third day after the election. Nevada officials have interpreted the law to include the counting of ballots without visible postmarks. Republicans argue that postmarks are still required for ballots to be counted, citing the language of the law. Despite their appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court, a district court judge previously ruled in favor of counting mail ballots without postmarks, stating that disenfranchising voters was not in the public’s interest. This is an ongoing story and updates will be provided.
