Former President Donald J. Trump’s criminal trial is coming to a close, and a center-left group is attempting to pressure the Republican presidential candidate into testifying.
“Take the stand, Donald, or admit you’re a coward,” declares a new ad from the group Third Way, referencing Mr. Trump’s previous statement questioning why innocent individuals would take the Fifth Amendment.
The digital ad, which has a five-figure budget, is strategically placed in locations where Trump is expected to be, such as New York, around Trump Tower and the courthouse, Mar-a-Lago, and Dallas near the National Rifle Association meeting where he is scheduled to speak.
Matt Bennett, co-founder of Third Way, explained, “He has portrayed himself as strong on the issue of the Fifth Amendment, suggesting that only guilty individuals invoke it. Now that he may be considering it himself, we wanted to remind him of his past statements and provoke him to testify, as it may not work in his favor if he chooses not to.”
Trump’s legal team informed the judge on Thursday that he has not yet made a decision regarding testifying. Trump has previously utilized the Fifth Amendment.
In this trial, Trump is accused of falsifying 34 business records related to a hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels, a porn star. He has denied these allegations.
The ad buy was initially reported by Politico.
