The 14-term Democratic congressman previously had been hospitalized for respiratory illness.
Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), a long-serving congressman from New Jersey, passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
His office made the announcement of his passing around noon EDT on the social media platform X.
“As our United States Representative, Bill fought tirelessly until his last breath to return to the job he loved and to the people he cherished,” the statement read. “Bill spent his entire life in Paterson and had a deep love for the city he called home and served. He is now at peace after dedicating his lifetime to our great nation, America.”
Pascrell was first elected to the House in 1996 and was re-elected for his 14th term in 2022.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
