All Democratic governors from across the nation are gathering this weekend in Los Angeles for their annual winter meeting of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), hosted by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The meeting will bring together Democratic governors from 23 states, four U.S. territories, and the Mayor of the District of Columbia, Muriel Bowser. The current chair of the DGA is Laura Kelly, the Governor of Kansas.
Notable attendees include New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, dealing with a statewide migrant crisis, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is open to collaborating with Trump on illegal immigration. Also present will be New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who recently ran as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate.
Newsom, now in his second term as governor, called for a special session of the California legislature this week.
“We will work with the incoming administration and we want President Trump to succeed in serving all Americans,” said Newsom.
Recent appointments by Trump have caused stir in Washington as he aims to reform the capital’s bureaucracy. Elon Musk, the California-based billionaire, has pledged to assist Trump in shaking up the city by serving as co-commissioner of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
“At the direction of Joint Rules, the Capitol and Swing Space have been temporarily evacuated while California Highway Patrol officers search for any threats,” said the CHP.
James Gallagher, the Republican minority leader in the California State Assembly, assured that his team evacuated safely, thanking authorities for their swift response.
