The NTD’s 7th International Piano Competition commenced in New York with contestants from Europe, Asia, and America participating. The competition, taking place at the Kaufman Music Center, saw 10 contestants competing on the first day of the preliminary round, with the event scheduled to last for six days.
Elie Casbi, a contestant from France, expressed his gratitude for the memorable experience, regardless of the outcome. The competition’s mission is to promote traditional arts characterized by “pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty,” focusing on piano works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras.
Participants like Ching-Yi Lin from Taiwan praised the selection of conventional and authentic repertoire by NTD. However, contestant Tom Han from Canada noted the emotional depth and tranquility found in classical music, emphasizing its compassionate nature.
The competition features a commissioned piece titled “Holy Grace,” a symphonic poem of classical Chinese music for the piano, rearranged from a vocal piece composed by Shen Yun Performing Arts’ Artistic Director, D. F.
Semifinalists will have the opportunity to compete for the “Best Rendition Award of the Commissioned Composition.” The event will be livestreamed on NTD’s and The Epoch Times’ websites and social media platforms, with a schedule including semifinals on Oct. 17, finals on Oct. 18, a winners’ concert on Oct. 19, and an awards ceremony on the same day.
