A New York social worker is fighting for her life after being brutally attacked during a home visit last month.
Maria Coto, 56, of Westchester, has been on life support since the violent incident on May 14 in Peekskill, which left her with facial fractures and severe brain swelling and bleeding.
The suspected attacker, Hasseem Jenkins, 31, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault with intent to cause physical injury, according to online court records.
Coto was assaulted while checking on a client during the unprovoked attack.
Jenkins repeatedly punched and kicked Coto, causing severe brain bleeding, brain swelling, and multiple facial fractures, according to the criminal affidavit obtained by the Peekskill Herald.
She was immediately taken to the Medical Center in Valhalla for emergency surgery.
