The NYPD released new surveillance footage showing the Citi Bike rider who attacked two Orthodox Jewish boys in Brooklyn, with the department investigating the violence as a possible hate crime.
The victims, aged 11 and 13, were playing on Franklin Avenue near Myrtle Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant when they were targeted by the rider on Sunday night.
The man, believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, told the kids to get off the sidewalk as he rode past them. He later returned, pushed the older boy to the ground, and then turned his aggression towards the 11-year-old, kicking and punching him.
Both boys sustained cuts on the back of their heads and were treated at the scene. The assailant fled and remained at large by Friday.
Surveillance footage shows the attacker casually cycling along a sidewalk as pedestrians pass by. He is described as having a medium complexion and was last seen wearing a black jacket, black and white striped shirt, light blue jeans, and white sneakers with stripes.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is actively investigating the attacks. Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or in Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
