Scooter-Riding “Bad Boys” Shoot 15-Year-Old Girl in Bronx Apartment Complex
A 15-year-old girl, Paytton King, was shot and injured by scooter-riding “bad boys” in a Bronx apartment complex on Monday, according to her grandmother who urged the police to take action.
Paytton, a freshman at Grace H. Dodge Career and Technical School, was struck by a stray bullet at 183rd Street and Crotona Avenue in Belmont. The bullet caused serious injuries, splitting her pelvis, and she was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center for surgery.
Despite undergoing surgery and being in stable condition, Paytton remains hospitalized as the bullet is still inside her body, according to her grandmother.
Paytton, described as a lovely girl who enjoys playing sports, was not the intended target of the shooting, as per police sources. She was with her siblings and friends when the suspects on scooters opened fire randomly in the complex.
Paytton’s grandmother witnessed the incident and mentioned that multiple calls were made to the police earlier about the scooter-riding teens, but no action was taken until Paytton was shot.
No arrests had been made by the time of the report, leaving the community concerned about the ongoing violence. The grandmother emphasized the need for the suspects to be apprehended to prevent further incidents.
Violent incidents in the area have been on the rise this year, with a notable increase in shootings compared to the previous year. Community members attribute the surge in teen violence to easy access to guns and the lack of strict consequences for such actions.
Efforts are being made by organizations like Release The Grip to address the root causes of violence among young people and provide them with the necessary support and guidance to prevent future incidents.
