An incident unfolded where an unhinged homeless man stabbed a good Samaritan with scissors after the bystander intervened to help a woman being attacked by the assailant, as reported by cops and the victim.
Joseph Rivera, a box truck driver, witnessed the attack while on his way to make a delivery. He saw the homeless man kicking a woman in an unprovoked assault near Fulton Street and South Street at around 8:30 a.m.
Rivera, 36, confronted the attacker and was stabbed in the arm with scissors when the man tried to jump into his truck window. Despite his injury, Rivera took action to defend the woman who was being attacked.
Rivera, a father from Staten Island, took down the attacker who was allegedly trying to harm more victims. He and another man managed to restrain the assailant until police arrived.
The suspect, who remains unidentified, was charged with assault. Rivera expressed relief that they were able to prevent further harm by getting the attacker off the streets.
