A distressed mother took her son to the police on Thursday after recognizing him as a suspect in the random daytime slashing of a Danish tourist, as reported by New York Post.
The 25-year-old alleged attacker, who reportedly slashed a 55-year-old tourist on West 86th Street, was apprehended around 1 a.m. after patrol officers spotted his vehicle, according to law enforcement sources.
His mother identified him from surveillance footage of the incident and notified the authorities, leading to his arrest.
The attacker was caught on camera chasing the victim before slashing him across the ear and cheek without any prior interaction.
Investigators believe the suspect retrieved the weapon from his car before carrying out the attack.
After the assault, the assailant fled in a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, while the victim was hospitalized in stable condition.
The suspect, not yet officially identified, was also wanted for an aggravated harassment incident in April 2023 and had a history of erratic behavior, including a previous incident in May 2020.
He was described as paranoid and had a history of substance abuse, leading to his hospitalization for treatment.
