A migrant who was involved in a violent attack on two NYPD officers in Times Square and was quickly released on bail has been arrested again for serial theft, according to police sources.
Yohenry Brito, a 24-year-old from Venezuela, was apprehended late Tuesday for thefts at Manhattan Sephora stores in July and August. He was also previously arrested for multiple thefts before and after the Times Square incident.
Brito was one of seven migrants involved in assaulting an NYPD officer and lieutenant in Times Square on January 27. The altercation started when officers tried to disperse a rowdy crowd.
Five of the accused migrants were charged with assault on a police officer and obstructing governmental investigation but were released without bail. One of them, Jhoan Boada, was later cleared of involvement in the attack.
Brito was initially released with the other suspects but was later taken back into custody and held on bail due to his involvement in the scuffle and previous theft cases.
Despite being released on bail with the help of an activist minister, Brito was arrested again for theft and warned by a judge about the consequences of further arrests.
Following his latest arrest, Brito is now facing multiple charges and is being held on bail for both the theft incidents and the Times Square police assault.
