A gang of robbers driven by greed has targeted 49 businesses across New York City, stealing ATMs and making off with tens of thousands of dollars — in a crime spree that lasted three months and covered four boroughs, according to authorities.
The trio of criminals stole cars to use as getaway vehicles before each robbery in upper Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens between Sept. 19 and Dec. 26, as per the police.
Once inside the stores, they ransacked ATMs and other items before fleeing in different vehicles, officials said.
During two robberies in September, the group made off with nearly $40,000 in cash from ATMs, according to police.
However, authorities were unable to provide a total amount for all the stolen ATMs.
On Dec. 23, surveillance footage captured two of the criminals around 1:20 a.m. dismantling an ATM inside a grocery store at 75-10 31st Ave. in Jackson Heights, Queens, as shown in a video released by the NYPD on Friday.
Authorities are urging the public to share any information about the three suspects involved in the citywide robbery pattern. No arrests have been made yet.
