A Brooklyn straphanger who had his face randomly sliced open by a stranger on his way to work is upset to be another victim on the subway.
Earlton Massenburg Jr. shared his terrifying experience with The Post, describing how he was abruptly woken up by the excruciating pain of his face being cut open last Sunday.
“When I opened my eyes, I saw this guy with something sharp in his hand and it looked like he had just finished cutting me,” Massenburg, 31, said of the bloody attack on a 4 train as he headed to work as an Amazon deliveryman in Staten Island.
He mentioned, “I wasn’t panicking — I was angry. I find it crazy given the number of cameras and police presence.”
After alerting the police, Massenburg realized the extent of his injuries when he checked his face using his phone’s camera.
The gash extended from his hairline across his right cheek to his lip, with numerous stitches holding it together.
“It’s pretty much all across my cheek in a horizontal line. Like, the whole cheek,” he added.
Despite a 6% decrease in felony assaults in transit in the first two months of this year, incidents have risen compared to previous years, with a 56% increase from 2019, based on NYPD data.
Massenburg’s attack is one of several recent incidents, including random assaults and robberies, prompting increased police presence and patrols in the subway system.
Massenburg’s attacker is still at large, but he has returned to work and continues his daily commute, although he remains angry about the incident.
