The Olympic flag has landed in Los Angeles, where it will be raised in 2028 for the upcoming Summer Games. The flag arrived on a Delta Airlines jet adorned with “LA28” and palm trees, accompanied by American athletes and officials. As the plane touched down at Los Angeles International Airport, Tupac Shakur’s “California Love” played on loudspeakers.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass greeted the arrival in a red Team USA tracksuit, proudly displaying the Olympic flag before being welcomed by California Governor Gavin Newsom. Alongside the mayor were Olympic diver Delaney Schnell, skateboarder Tate Carew, and others.
Expressing her pride and sense of responsibility, Mayor Bass emphasized the need to accelerate preparations for the Games. Los Angeles was awarded the hosting rights in 2017, marking its third time hosting the Games after 1932 and 1984.
Despite challenges like homelessness, Bass highlighted LA’s unique asset in Hollywood, foreseeing magical opportunities for the upcoming Games. The transition of the Olympic flag from Paris to Los Angeles was marked by actor Tom Cruise’s Hollywood-style aerial stunt at the closing ceremony.
