Over 400 Stolen Vehicles Recovered in Northern California CHP Operation

In the past eight weeks, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that an undercover sting operation in Northern California’s East Bay led to 181 arrests and the seizure of 30 firearms. The California Highway Patrol recovered 414 stolen vehicles and made nearly 200 arrests during this period, targeting carjackers, drug traffickers, and thieves. The operation also involved the installation of 480 high-tech cameras in Oakland and on state freeways to track criminals in real time. The surge operations initiated in February focused on combating auto theft, retail crime, cargo theft, and violent crime. The efforts have been praised for improving public safety and restoring peace of mind to Californians. Additionally, the crackdown on crime has led to the closure of businesses in the area, with three restaurants citing increasing crime as a major factor in their decision to shut down.
