Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi underwent hip replacement surgery in Europe after sustaining an injury during a bipartisan trip to Luxembourg. According to her spokesperson, Pelosi is recovering well after the successful surgery on Dec. 14. The California Democrat expressed gratitude to the U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and the medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their care and kindness.
Pelosi’s spokesperson also noted that she is thankful for the outpouring of prayers and well wishes and remains committed to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Americans. The injury occurred during an official engagement as part of a bipartisan congressional delegation in Luxembourg, where Pelosi had to be hospitalized. Despite the setback, she continues to work and receive excellent treatment.
Rep. Michael McCaul, who was part of the delegation, shared his support for Pelosi’s speedy recovery. The group had planned to participate in events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg and Belgium. Pelosi, known for her prominent role in Washington over the years, has served multiple terms in the House of Representatives and played a key role in passing President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill in 2022.
