Kennedy Campaign Files Election Complaint Claiming Exclusion from Presidential Debates
In a new election complaint, Mr. Kennedy has accused CNN of working with President Biden and former President Trump to exclude him from the upcoming presidential debate hosted by the network on June 27.
Mr. Finger, a member of the Kennedy campaign, expressed frustration at the perceived bias, stating, “There is an illusion of democracy. It’s hard to imagine that an independent candidate with the last name Kennedy and good polling can’t get on the debate stage.”
Mr. Kennedy himself stated, “By demanding our campaign meet different criteria to participate in the debate than Presidents Biden and Trump, CNN’s debate violates FEC law and is a large prohibited corporate contribution to both the Biden and Trump campaigns.”
The Kennedy campaign has raised concerns about the debate criteria set by CNN, particularly the requirement for candidates to secure 270 electoral votes. They argue that this requirement is being unfairly applied, as Biden and Trump are allowed to participate without meeting this threshold. The campaign asserts that this discrepancy violates FEC regulations mandating that debate criteria be “pre-established” and “objective.”
Mr. Finger criticized the situation, saying, “It is anything but fair. It’s a rigged democracy. Everything is set up against independents like RFK Jr. being taken seriously.”
