When then-President Donald Trump initiated his “good and easy to win” trade wars in 2017, Peter Navarro defended the use of tariffs in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Navarro claimed that China was bearing the entire burden of the tariffs, refuting any suggestion that American consumers were impacted.
However, data analysis revealed that American consumers and businesses actually bore approximately 93 percent of the cost of Trump’s tariffs.
Navarro, known for his lack of economic understanding, was appointed as “Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing” by President-elect Donald Trump.
During Trump’s first term, Navarro played a significant role in implementing protectionist policies that were detrimental to economic growth and trade practices.
Despite Trump’s endorsement, Navarro’s track record and credibility have been questioned by experts in the field of economics.
Navarro’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to align with Trump’s unconventional views on trade and loyalty rather than expertise in the subject matter.
