Police responded to reports of a shooting on Sept. 1 at approximately 6:19 a.m. in the vicinity of Eglinton Avenue West and Times Road. Triston McNally was discovered at the scene with gunshot wounds, and despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
‘A Very Violent Weekend’
According to a news conference on Sept. 3, Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force stated, “Unfortunately, we had a very violent weekend in the city this past weekend, with 11 shootings taking place across 10 divisions.” He added, “There were five firearm discharges, three shootings with injuries, and three homicides. Five of these discharges and shootings happened on Sunday, September 2 alone.”
As per a news release, police have confiscated six firearms and arrested six individuals for possession of these weapons.
Inspector Krawczyk mentioned that these incidents occurred in various parts of the city and do not seem to be connected. He emphasized the importance of community collaboration in addressing the root causes of such violence.
Superintendent Paul McIntyre, from the organized crime enforcement unit, highlighted ongoing efforts to engage high-risk youth through community programs aimed at preventing them from joining gangs and staying out of trouble.
McIntyre revealed that thousands of youths in the city have already participated in these programs. He emphasized the focus on vulnerable youth and the importance of providing them with alternatives to gang involvement.
Inspector Krawczyk appealed to the public for assistance in combating crime, urging individuals to report any suspicious activities or individuals with firearms to the police or Crime Stoppers.
