On Labor Day morning in Forest Park, Ill., a shooting on a subway train outside Chicago tragically resulted in the deaths of four individuals, as confirmed by the police.
At the Forest Park station, three victims were pronounced dead, with the fourth victim succumbing to injuries at a hospital. The suspect managed to flee the scene but was later apprehended on a different train route, as reported by Forest Park police.
Deputy Chief Chris Chin of Forest Park stated to the press, “A weapon was recovered, and there is no immediate danger. This incident seems to be isolated on this unfortunate day.” The authorities were alerted around 5:30 a.m., and Chin did not disclose any information about the victims at that time, describing the shooting as “shocking” and “horrible.”
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that such violence should never occur, especially on public transit. Security camera footage played a crucial role in aiding the investigation, according to CTA.
Mayor Rory Hoskins of Forest Park commented on the tragedy, noting that his community, with a population of 14,000, is the sole Chicago suburb in Cook County where two major train lines terminate. He lamented the loss of four lives on Labor Day weekend and acknowledged the frequent response of the local police and fire departments to incidents at the station.
