Snapchill LLC, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has issued a voluntary recall of more than 100 coffee products due to concerns about the potential presence of a deadly toxin. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall, stating that the current low-acid canning process used by Snapchill could result in the growth and production of the toxin in canned foods.
The affected coffee products, which may be sold under various coffee roaster names, come in metal cans ranging from seven to 12 ounces. The packaging will bear the label “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” or “Snapchill Coffee.”
Botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by a toxin that attacks the body’s nerves. Symptoms include breathing difficulties, paralysis, and even death. The Clostridium botulinum bacteria can produce these toxins, often found in improperly canned foods.
Individuals experiencing symptoms of foodborne botulism should seek immediate medical attention, as the disease can be fatal in 5 to 10 percent of cases. Snapchill has emphasized that they are working with the FDA to address the issue and ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers.
The recall includes products sold under brands such as Bent Tree Coffee, Black Nerd, Cape Cod Coffee, Coffee Hound, Five Grounds, Lanys Coffee, QUIVR, Rusty Dog, and Upshot. A full list of recalled products can be accessed on the FDA website for further information. Please rewrite this sentence.
