WASHINGTON—President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a dinner on Sunday to commemorate the unveiling of an updated White House public tour.
The event marked the first lady’s overhaul of the White House public tour, with the official reveal scheduled for Monday.
During his address to guests, President Biden emphasized the importance of inspiring future generations to continue the White House’s legacy, referring to himself and the first lady as “temporary renters” of “the People’s House.” The president, who announced his decision not to seek a second term in July, is set to conclude his term in a few months.
Jill Biden, who spearheaded the revamp of the White House tour, expressed that while the current event signifies the completion of one phase of their work, it also signifies the beginning of a new chapter for White House public tours.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your first lady,” she added.
The updates to the White House tour come amidst Washington’s shoulder season, the period between peak tourism and off-season, as well as the upcoming presidential election where the White House prepares for a transition of administrations.
A new feature designed to provide visitors a glimpse of the White House has recently emerged.
Opened in September, a new tourist attraction offers a replica of President Joe Biden’s Oval Office at The People’s House: A White House Experience. The Oval Office, a rarely accessible area not included in the public tour route, gives visitors a unique opportunity.
White House tours remain complimentary and can be arranged through the White House or a congressional representative.
